Happy Holidays!
As this year comes to end, we should reflect on many things that have happened in our African secular community and what we can do to make things better next year. Even though we are very new on the scene, we already know about the continued abuse of human rights in many countries.
The right to the freedom from and of religion is a fundamental human right that should be respected throughout this continent and we can fairly say that Africa has a lot of work to do with regards to allowing people the freedom of thought that they inherently deserve.
The situation in Zambia and Southern Africa is far different than the Northern and Eastern regions of Africa. A lot of secular individuals face religious prejudice at work and at home. The severity of these cases however, far surpasses what is seen in Non-African or Non-Middle Eastern countries. The socio-economic status of many countries is marred by the theocratic forms of leadership that render anyone that thinks differently an outcast in their community. This affects the ability for secular individuals to find jobs, get married, get a promotion or a raise, and a lot of basic things that we all deserve to have.
The Ethical Society of Zambia will be determined to make a case to change this narrative in 2022, and we ask you to join us in this pursuit by either liking our social media page here The Ethical Society of Zambia or by being added to a WhatsApp group after you fill in this form here Contact Info.
We wish you a happy festive season and a productive new year!
Regards,
Asher Zimba.
President.
